This month I finally sat back down to close it out. It got me thinking about the part of me that wanted it in the first place — and what she's been trying to tell me since.
Eight years ago, I sat in a tattoo chair and started a piece I never finished. It just… stayed like that. Half-done, on my body, every single day, for eight years.
This month I finally sat back down in the chair. Four sessions in. Still not totally done. But close.
And I keep thinking about why it took so long, and what actually changed. The honest answer is that the part of me who wanted that tattoo in the first place was never asking permission. She just knew what felt like her. It was the grown-up in me who kept finding reasons to wait.
This week is my birthday, and I've been thinking a lot about that same part of me — the one who knew what she wanted before anyone taught her to be reasonable about it. So instead of the usual birthday thing, I'm opening up something a little different.
